Reducing friction in PD-ready resource retrieval

A systems-level UX effort focused on information architecture and retrieval speed, designed for educators operating under time pressure.

Role: UX Designer & Front-End Consultant Timeline: 2023–2024 Platform: Web Focus: IA · accessibility · adoption

Problem

High-value professional-development resources existed, but inconsistent navigation, unclear hierarchy, and buried facilitator guides made key materials difficult to retrieve— especially for returning users.

Constraints

  • Users are time-constrained and primarily returning.
  • Content volume is high and spans multiple stakeholder needs.
  • Accessibility requirements must hold across templates and artifacts.

Key decisions

  • Rebuilt information architecture around educator intent.
  • Surfaced downloadable tools earlier in flows.
  • Designed the navigation model for returning users as the primary use case.

Outcome & learning

  • Clarified highest-leverage improvements: IA and retrieval speed.
  • Created a validated plan to reduce search-by-browsing behavior.
  • Confirmed that IA beats polish when users operate under time pressure.
